Team Excellence Questionnaire
The scores I gave myself and my team are below. I think these scores would have been much different before I assumed responsibility for the new team and before taking on the new transition project. In both scenarios, there is a lack of trust between team members or between smaller teams. Interestingly enough, from the questions from the Team Excellence Survey, question 3 " Team members possess the essential skills and abilities to accomplish the team’s objectives." is the highest ranked. And, in my estimation, the teams are all constructed from very capable individuals, but often working at cross purposes or without a purpose. I'm looking forward to digging in and providing some structure!

Rob,
Although we hope that our team members work together, that is not often the case as you point out here. What are you going to do about the challenges you see?
Jim
@Jim I'm learning that there has been a power struggle on that team for a few years now that has just been left to linger. Difficult topics are not discussed and so people on the team have been interpreting their duties differently which has been causing quite a bit of tension. I spent the first 30 days meeting with everyone and listening to their interpretations of how they should be working. I identified the areas they agree on and then forced some conversations about the disagreements. In some cases where the divide was particularly wide, I held separate conversations and acted as a middle man to help find a solution that would work for everyone. I'm to a place now where much of the internal strife has resolved, although some of them are still working on trusting me, although I don't believe that lack of trust is personal. Challenging to be sure, but not insurmountable!
@rob-hughes Great job in getting to know where the problems are and show that you are willing to fix them working with everyone from their perspective.
Jim
Rob I admire your honesty about your team and the valuation about their maybe lack of trust issues. I admire your insight.
