I retired in 2007 after 27 years in the Army as a Finance Corps Officer.  After earning an MS in Operations Analysis in 1990, I spent 12 years modeling Army personnel from recruiting to retirement.  I also spent 3 years as a cost analyst for the Secretary of Defense pricing major acquisition programs such as the Virginia Class Submarine.  From 2007-2017, I was a Government Civilian working for the Undersecretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness as the Deputy Director, Military Compensation Policy and Lead Analyst for the Analytical Directorate, Military Personnel Policy.  After completing the CFP program at Georgetown, I worked as a Relationship Manager, American Armed Force Mutual Aid Association, Wealth Management and Trust, 2018-2020.  I became a Certified Business Coach in November 2021.  Through the American College for Financial Services, I have taught CHLF 430:  Strategic Leadership, three times.  I have been a High School Co-ed Golf Coach for 8 years; we won the Virginia State Championship in 2024 and 2025.  I have volunteered 15 years at Living Savior Lutheran Church as the Property Lead, Outreach Lead, Vice President, and President.

Jean-Marie and I have been married 43 years.  We have 2 children and 3 grandchildren.  Jean-Marie retired after 20 years as a Fairfax County School teacher (she was the elementary school art curriculum lead the last 10 years).

I am looking forward to learning more about leadership.  I am interested in how to develop a business coaching enterprise.  I am also interested in learning more about managing an on-line class and motivating students to do their best.

  • Leadership positions I will have: I will continue as a business coach, golf coach, and hope to instruct one of the CPBL classes or CHLF 430 (if it is retained at the American College for Financial Services).
  • Leadership aspirations: the only additional positions (other than the three listed above) would the Army Navy Country Club Board of Governors.
  • Success: golf coaching would be successful if the athletes try their best, learn proper golf etiquette, and mature as responsible young adults (winning a third title would be “icing on the cake”).  Instructing would be successful if the students benefit personally and professionally from the on-line instruction.  Business coaching would be a success if I had 5-10 coachees.

Welcome, Steve!

What a distinguished and dynamic journey you’ve led—and what a gift to have you in this CPBL cohort! Your career reflects a rare synthesis of service, strategy, and stewardship, from shaping national military compensation policy to modeling the future force structure of the U.S. Army. And now, you’re continuing that leadership legacy through teaching, coaching, and community engagement.

I’m especially inspired by how you’ve channeled your expertise into such meaningful work post-retirement—guiding students in the classroom, coaching championship-winning high school golfers, and supporting your church and family with the same dedication that defined your military career. That holistic, service-minded leadership is what we call “tremendous.”

Your goals to expand your coaching enterprise and enhance your instructional impact align perfectly with the CPBL mission. I have no doubt that your future clients, students, and colleagues will be transformed by your wisdom and heart.

We’re honored to have you with us, Steve—thank you for your service, your vision, and your continued investment in others. Welcome to the tribe!
