I am practical operational leader from the field. I learned the art of effective teamwork in the NFL playing for the Detroit Lions as a younger man. I traded uniforms to become a warrior in the Navy and led troops in combat as a fighter squadron commanding officer in the Balkans and Southwest Asia in '93 to a wing commander in the Persian Gulf in Kuwait/Iraq in '96 to a group and task force commander in Iraq north of Baghdad in '03 and ultimately as fleet commander in Lebanon in '05, Pakistan in '06, and Africa in '07. I don't say these to brag on a career but to note leadership challenges. Since military service, I have my own company in crisis leadership and career transition coaching as well as becoming a business coach. I tend to pass lessons I learned via telling stories.
