What score did you receive and why? It's interesting to take this questionnaire from the perspective of a leader and a follower. With my leader I scored in the Moderate range and with my followers I scored myself in the high range. When I think about "why" the two are different, it comes down to transparency and trust. With my leader, I feel like I can trust them most of the time, but I know things get decided behind closed doors and explanations are (sometimes) not forthcoming. Not that I necessarily need to know all the background behind a decision, but it happens just enough that I think it undermines the trust I have in the relationship. Knowing that, I make a concerted effort to be transparent with my followers as much as I possibly can. All of my followers have years of experience at The College and I rely on their judgement to help guide my decisions. If I make decisions that I know they don't agree with, we discuss it in the open.
What did you learn about yourself because of taking this survey?

I'm not sure I can articulate what I learned from this that I didn't already know. I have a decent relationship with my leader that I think could be improved so that I am able to share everything that I'd like to. Perhaps I need to have more courage in sharing that with them.

What modifications or enhancements will you make to be a better team leader in the workplace?

I think it's important that I continue to encourage my team to be honest with me and to create an environment where they feel comfortable doing so. I have a high EQ and I'm pretty good at reading nonverbal cues. I'm not shy about asking questions when I notice someone is holding something back. Additionally, with my leader, work on building a more open relationship with them.

Rob, I agree with you that 401 prepared me very well for self-discovery. In 402, especially this survey, there seem to be no surprises.

Rob, I would agree with you that improving on your relationship with your leader and trusting him is a very positive outlook to help grow your leadership ability.

One of the most effective ways I learned to improve my relationship with my leader(s) was to think through issues from that leader's point of view. When I could anticipate solutions for their problems, I not only became better trusted by them but more valuable to them.
