How can I integrate my core values into my leadership style to effectively inspire and motivate my team?

Integrating your values into your leadership style starts with self-awareness, intentional communication, and modeling your values through your actions. You can uncover what your true values are by answering the 13 questions that John DeMartini poses in his video. He tells us that, very often, the values that we consider to be “ours” are actually “injected” values that you’ve picked up over time but aren’t actually important to you. Once you’ve determined what your most authentic values are you can determine how to combine them with the leadership theories that work for the various situations that you and your team need to navigate. Your core values are should be a compass that, guides your decisions, actions, and relationships. As you are leading, check in with yourself to make sure your actions align with your choices.

For example, if your values highlight continuous learning and collaboration, you can inspire your team by fostering an environment of shared knowledge, offering growth opportunities, and celebrating collective achievements. As you share your values with your team and put them into practice, you will show your team that you are committed to upholding your values, which will build trust and loyalty. By integrating your core values into your day to day work, you will can create an atmosphere that motivates and empowers the team.

What steps can I take to ensure that my core values align with the organizational culture I want to create?

You should consider the goals of your team and develop ways to translate your core values into actionable policies and practices that support those goals. For example, if you value innovation and inclusivity, you can champion initiatives that encourage diverse perspective and remove barriers to collaboration. You can also organize workshops or team discussions that allow others to share their values, building alignment and co-ownership of the culture.

How can I use the insights gained from these questions to set long-term goals for my personal and professional development?

As Dr. DeMartini states, your values should be things that you are already doing, but there is always room to grow and improve through goal-setting.  If one of your values is integrity, you might seek out courses or books on ethics. If one of your values is generosity, you might set goals to donate your time to important causes or as an extra set of hands on a project at work that you normally wouldn’t be a part of. Find opportunities to lead values-based projects with your team.

Not having specific core values from Alex makes using Dr. John DeMartini's 13 questions a bit of a guessing game. I am assuming the answers always depend on the situation. I agree with your recommendation of "upholding" Alex's values, but it might be hard to do depending on the work environment.

Dr. Jolly, you make an excellent point about "checking in with yourself." I always say that when we "rationalize," we tell ourselves rational lies. Your action plan, which encourages team members to tackle initiatives that resonate with their values, is also excellent. Different things will be near and dear at various levels, so if you have a passion or calling for a particular value, pursue it!

Well done, Rob. I also liked his opening about digging deep to find out what are truly your values versus ones you've just "assumed" because you were exposed to them. He provided great details on how to translate these into actionable items.

Rob, it was great to see how you suggested answering the value points of Dr John Demartini 13 questions on values in your presentation.  Good job.
