What score did you receive for transformational and transactional leadership and why?
My scores show that I lean heavily toward transformational leadership, particularly in areas like emotional healing (24), empowering others (24), and helping followers grow and succeed (26). These scores reflect how much I value supporting my team on a personal and professional level, focusing on their growth and creating a positive work environment. On the other hand, my score in creating value for the community (16) shows I could do more to connect my leadership with a broader community impact. It’s a good reminder of where I can shift more focus.

What did you learn about yourself because of taking this survey?
This survey helped me realize that my strengths lie in fostering relationships and building others up through trust and empowerment. It also showed me that I can sometimes overlook the bigger picture when it comes to linking my work to community impact. It’s a helpful perspective on how I show up as a leader and where I can stretch myself further.

What modifications or enhancements will you make to be a better transformational leader in the workplace?
To grow as a transformational leader, I want to focus more on connecting our work to its impact on the broader community. This means being more intentional about showing my team how their efforts contribute to larger goals beyond just the workplace. I’ll also continue prioritizing empowerment and personal growth while fostering a shared sense of purpose. I believe this will make our work feel more meaningful and inspiring for everyone.

Keith, I am very impress with how supportive you are in the personal and professional growth of your team on an emotional and empowering level.  This shows that you have a remarkable way of communicating with your team and bringing out the best in them.   Keep doing what you are doing.

Keith, I'd echo John's comments; you have a tremendous blend of empowering and developing. Your reflection on linking it more to the community will allow you to extend your reach. When leaders give as much time to our community as we are to our teams, you become a servant on multiple fronts, creating an unexpected synergy. After running my business for 16 years, I realized I spend as much, if not more, of my resources and time on my ministries and volunteerism. While some would say that it takes away from growing my business, I find the two are intricately linked. Servant leadership also blends with my faith perspective that everything we do on earth is practiced for heaven. And in the words of Russell Crowe in Gladiator, "What we do in life echoes through eternity!"

Hi Keith,

Before I started working at The American College, I'm not sure that I would have been able to articulate clearly the community benefits that professionals in the insurance and financial services sectors provide. However, over the past 6 years I've gotten to know so many faculty members and practitioners like Chia-Li and David Pierce who have shown me just how important the work you all do is to the community at large. Providing financial security and advice helps folks like me focus on their passions instead while easing concerns about what the future holds financially. I can see why Joe Jordan has such a high profile in financial services circles because it's clear that he really believes in the good that can be achieved through your work. All that to say, I think your focus on helping your staff to make that connection is a great goal to strive for. Helping your team find purpose will help them to become better in their roles.

The results of the followership survey from my people have scores of 49 (Indep. thinking) and 44 (Active Engagement) which is Exemplary Followership Style.

This is consistent with how I wish to show up as a leader.
